FAQs

How do I choose the right outfit?

  • Solid colors are less distracting than busy patterns or writing/images on shirts.  Subdued, muted tones turn out lovely.  Dark colors work too but try to keep to the same color palette if you will be photographed as a group.
  • Bring two outfits to have a variety of images to choose from.
  • Tops that are arms length will keep the focus on your smiling face!
  • Longer skirts or pants will help to elongate your body.

Can I wear jewelry or accessories?

Too many pieces will draw attention away from your face so try to keep these choices to a minimum.

What should I bring?

  • If you are wearing glasses, it's always a good idea to bring along some lens wipes
  • Blotting sheets to keep your face looking it's best
  • Hair Brush
  • Accessories (Jewelry, scarves, hats)
  • Lip moisturizer

How much make-up should I wear?

I work with experienced and professional makeup artists who are available the day of your shoot.

However, if you prefer to do your own, here are a few things to keep in mind.

Skin

  • Make sure your skin is well hydrated
  • Use matte finish products (avoid having shiny and reflective finishes)
  • Match your foundation color to the natural color of your skin in the neck and chest area
  • Oil-free liquid foundations are the best for photos
  • Finishing powder is a good idea to help reduce the shine
  • When choosing a blush, it's a good idea to pick one that's a little darker than you would normally use.  Ensure that the contouring is gradual to look more natural

Tanning

If you are wanting to have a sun kissed look - it's best to tan yourself 1 week before your photoshoot.  Some creams and lotions will make your skin look orange and muddy.

Eyes

  • Eyebrows - It's always best to wax your eyebrows a couple of days before your session

Make sure your brows are dark enough when viewed in natural light.  It's a good idea to fill in your brows, especially for blondes.

  • Lashes - Darker mascara works well.  Black works best to help make your eyes stand out

For more natural looking portraits (corporate headshots or portfolios) there is no need to use a lot of heavy eye makeup.

False lashes are not recommended for actor's portfolios.

Lips

  • Your lip color should be a shade darker than you normally wear and in the red shade.  To finish off your lips, lip gloss helps to make your lips look fuller

Hair

  • Stick to products that enhance shine.  Feel free to use hair spray or gel to tame fizz
